okay, so i have a Mac Mini i believe it is the 2008 or 2009 model. It is currently running 10.5.8 Leaoprd osx and i would like to update it to snow leapord so i can have the 10.6 requiremtns most programs and games need. My dad purchased a mac mini as well the 2009-2010 but he is running osx snow leapord 10.6.2, which is what i would like to update to so i may update to lion. My dad still has the software cd that comes with his mac, the osx 10.6.2 cd. My question is, can i use his cd on my computer and update my 10.5.8 to 10.6.2 snow leapord.
If you have any other information on how to update your software please let me know.

No for two reasons...

-- The DVD is for one series of Mac, his. It will show a message "Mac OS X cannot be installed".

-- It is illegal.

Buy the Retail DVD. Call 1-800-myapple and see if they have one left. It has been discontinued for over a year. You need to work on those reflexes for faster response.

It will be a case of try it and see. As the SilverTonguedDevil suggests it may not work but there is no harm in trying. Snow Leopard is required to update to Lion/Mountain Lion but the update from the App Store can be installed on all your Macs.

If you have an Apple store nearby pop in and explain the situation as they can often find a copy of Snow Leopard which they will install for you so you can update to Lion/Mountain Lion.

I lost you at "I have a Mac" that's what seems to be the problem.
