Go to: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/gimp-win/gimp-2.2.13-i586-setup-1.zip This is the GIMP setup. You have to unzip it. Win XP has unzip built into it. Then go to: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/gimp-win/gtk%2B-2.10.6-1-setup.zip This is the GTK setup. You also have to unzip it. After you have them unzipped, run the GTK setup first. Choose the default options. Then run the GIMP setup. Choose the default options. You're done. The GIMP user manual is at: http://docs.gimp.org/en/

I just went through the same crap in downloading Gimp. Download unzip and install that GTK first to a folder in program files and then just forget about it, Gimp will use it as it needs it.

Download unzip and install Gimp to a different folder.

The help files are yet a third download which you will unzip, install and follow the directions. The help files will find the Gimp folder on its own and put itself in the correct place when you install it.

If you need it the animation package is yet another download, treat it just like the "Help" files.

Good luck.

Paste this link into your browser:

http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html

The first download is the Gimp, the second download is the gtk thing for Windows 2000 and later, and the third download is the gtk thing for older versions of Windows. Under 'Additional Packages' you can download the Help file installer.

If the link doesn't work, go to www.gimp.org, click on the 'gimp for windows' link, click on 'Automated Installer', and click on 'downloads'.
