Yes, it is excellent.

No, it doesn't crash your PC.

Yes, it can do 'airbrushing'.

It's a bit difficult to use for beginners, but you can easily get acquainted with it in a few days.

Here's the link to get it (you will need to download and install the Gtk+ Run-Time environment before you can use Gimp)

Hi there,

Here you can find a free download of GIMP: http://bitly.com/1mF5UQl

GIMP is a free program you can use for a bunch ot tasks like photo retouching, image authoring and image composition. In my opinion it is the best free photo editing software on the market. It's not as powerful as photoshop, but it's free and can be augmented with plugins and extensions. These features make it the most advanced free photo-retouching software. GIMP can be used as a simple paint program or a complex image-manipulation software (thanks also to to a very advanced scripting interface)

I recommend not to use torrents or downloads from anywhere else, as they might be backdoored.

Occasionally I found that my computer will freeze up if I'm editing a very large picture with lots of layers, but it probably depends on how much memory your computer has. Once and a while the program itself will crash, so just save every 10 minutes or so.

It does do nice airbrushing and other effects, and is easy to learn. There are also tutorials online you can find if you search on google.

The problem I (and maybe others) have with the Gimp is that I'm already used to doing things 1 way in another paint program (such as photoshop), and things just don't work quite the same way as they do in photoshop. So, when I try to use the Gimp, I get frustrated trying to re-learn things that I already know how to do using another program.

I have some friends who are gimp-masters though. The program is a fine technical accomplishment, I just find the usability to be very lacking.
