First download the installer from here: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/gimp-win/gimp-2.6.6-i686-setup.exe

Run that, when you see a large 'Install Now' button, click that. It will install GTK+ and everything you need for you.

How to Install GIMP

The GIMP application is open source image editing software that is a free alternative to Adobe Photoshop and other, commercial applications. As with all software licensed under the GNU GPL, it is completely free to download, use, share with others (distribute), and modify. Its name is an acronym for "GNU Image Manipulation Program". Many powerful features available in Photoshop and other commercial image editing applications are also available in this free package.

GIMP is widely known for Linux users, but often not part of a Windows user's vocabulary. This guide will focus on installing GIMP for Windows. The process is simple, and the steps below will walk you through each part.

[edit] Steps

1. Download GIMP and save it to any location on your computer (remember this location). For example, the desktop is a good place for temporary files. It is available from GIMP's download page on sourceforge.net.

2. Run the installer from wherever you save the download. Double click on this file to launch it.

3. Answer the installer's questions. This is a series of typical installer questions. All of the default selections will work just fine, but for users who want a little more control, follow these steps:

1. Click "Next" to confirm that you're not running other applications. Feel free to have things such as an Internet browser (ie: this article) open. Applications which may interfere with the installation process of GIMP include GTK+ based programs, and any other installers running at the same time.

2. Click "Next" to agree to the GNU GPL.

3. Click "Customize" for more control over your installation. If desired, you may click on "Install now" instead for a default installation. The steps below refer to a custom installation.

4. Choose your installation folder, or leave it alone to choose the default "C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0" folder. Click on "Next".

5. A "Full installation" will install everything required for GIMP (including GTK+), but will not install the GIMP Python extension. If you already have a current version of GTK+ installed, or want to make your own selections, choose "Custom installation". Click "Next".

6. The file associations are shown with default selections. These will enable or disable files associated with GIMP, which means that if you 'launch' one of these files in the future, it will open it with GIMP by default. Make any desired changes here, then click "Next".

7. You will be asked if you want to create a Start Menu Folder for Windows. This will be a program folder and shortcuts that is added to your Start Menu (ie: "Programs" or "All Programs"). Make your selection, rename it if you like, then click "Next".

8. Two more checkboxes will appear asking if you'd like to create a desktop icon and a quick launch icon. The quick launch icon is placed on the quicklaunch toolbar, which is hidden by default for a new Windows installation. Make the desired selections, then click "Next".

9. Review your selections in this next text box, then click "Install".

4. Launch GIMP. When the installation is complete, you'll have the option to launch GIMP for the first time.

Anything that gimp needs installing, you must do so before it works. Click on the link & check out this prg. Much easier to use.

I would look this up in a book at your library as it's unlikely that anyone here will know something this specific. There are a surprising amount of books on this kind of thing if you look hard enough.
