You can't download the Beta from Microsoft anymore. Which is the only way that you can legally get the Windows 7 Beta.
Windows 7 will be quicker on the same software that Vista runs on. W7 is built on the same codebase as Vista, but is also optimized much better than Vista.

There are some minor changes in Windows 7. There are no major ones. Windows Media Player 12 has some dramatic changes, including iTunes support. You MAY be able to get a beta somewhere on Microsoft's website. Up until a few days ago, you could get it free, but that ended.

Hi J mister,
My name is Ron, and I’m a member of the Windows outreach team. I thought I’d throw out a condensed version of the new features and update that are in Windows 7 right now (in its Beta version).
Many Beta testers are noticing changes in load times for the OS and other application compute speeds (from what I’ve seen). Besides that, though, there are new features like an improved taskbar, improved device management, and the new HomeGroup networking tool. These are new and haven’t really been seen before.
For more info on these, head over here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/whats-new.aspx. That page has explanations of the new and updated features of Windows 7.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Ron

Yes it will be quicker, quicker than Vista.
Some major changes include: libraries, aero peek, smart bar(new taskbar name), increased boot and shut down times, more user friendly, increased battery life on laptops, etc.
The only way to get the beta is from someone you know or by searching for it on torrent sites. I think that it would be okay to download the torrent because it initially was freeware and betas normally are free.

it's an overlay.
and yes, i most assuredly have 'tried' it - probably before most did. i've been beta-testing microsoft products from day-one, and i have yet to be impressed by much of anything. and that's the reason they keep me on their beta-testing team. they don't want a bunch of 'yes' people who think they'll score points by saying something is oh-so-wonderful when it is not.
changes? - a few poorly designed 'purdies' that somewhat mimic the mac-o/s, but other than that, it's just - vista.
yes, you can download it.
ya know - it kinda bothers me that people compare anything-vista to the mac-o/s.
it's like comparing a ford pinto to a mercedes...
