You should browse though this

http://ubuntu-manual.org/

First stop to install something is the software center.

For the GPU there should be an additional drivers tool you can use to install it.

To get wireless up and running, go thought these steps, which should guide you in the right direction. I can't really point you in the right direction myself without a make/model of the chipset used

Ubuntu comes with a 'software center' installed. All the software you could want.... almost. There should be an icon for it on your 'Unity' bar. If not, just click the Ubuntu icon and type "Software" and it will show.

Nvidia does run on Linux. I've just noticed graphics and Linux seem to be one of the hardest things to get working well. I just didn't really like how Ubuntu handled drivers. I use LInux Mint which I like better than Ubuntu. But that's just personal choice. I have a 3 year old laptop with Nvidia card and was able to find my drivers for Linux Mint without much problem.

In the software center find and install 'restricted extras' That will help with some things.

It's a huge help if you start getting used to using the Terminal. You don't have to learn it. It's just a big help not being afraid to use it. Some of the instructions in the sources below will mention terminal commands.

Can msg with questions. I'll try to help.

A good link where you can get winrar is: http://bit.ly/1t6dcCg

You can use winrar to unzip zip file and loads of other formats. A few more programs you can use are 7zip or winzip but I still beleive winrar is the best choice. They work pretty much in the same way: you can compress or decompress files easily with a right-click.

The big advantages of Winrar are: it's free (it's available under a trial version that never expires) and can open all the formats: .zip, .rar, .7z / 7zip, .iso, .tar, .jar etc.

That's why I strongly recommend winrar.

install something... three basic ways

1) and it doesn't sound like you want to do this, is use terminal commands

2) use the ubuntu app manager, bit like google play store and as you are used to android you shouldn't have trouble getting to grips with it..

3) independently download the 'tar' or 'tarball' file click open and just okay the automatic run commands to have your selected application installed..

So..

Have tried Winrar lately. I got it from this site http://bit.ly/1p3OZao

To open compressed files (zip rar jar iso 7z cab uue gz....) you have to use WinRar. With WinRar you can easily decompress files and folders.

Good Bye
