It's getting close, but not comparable to Windows if you're holding it up to Microsoft's standards (for most games, "industry standard" and Windows-specific applications). Otherwise, Linux (as a whole) is perfectly fine for everything. For the most part, updates are NEVER forced - the user has complete control of when they want to run updates.

As far as telemetry goes, it's never built-in, and if any distribution does have telemetry it tends to get called out pretty quickly (in particular to Ubuntu and Deepin recently)

It's not better in means of what it can do and the programs available for it. but that is one of those weather you like it better or not preferences.

Linux Mint 18.3 is about the most friendly Windows comparable environment that you can possibly get as far as installing drivers for this thing if it's any kind of a modern device all you have to do is plug it in while you're connected to the internet and most of the case it'll install itself if not you just go to where it says drivers under the menu and that's usually sitting right there as far as is it better than Windows 10 well friend think about your Android cell phone.

Your Android cell phone is Ubuntu Linux!

Did you know that? Me if I had to choose between Windows or Linux Mint I take the Linux Mint!

If you have to ask the question then linux is not for you. Linux requires knowledge of command line interface and support for peripherals printers scanners etc not as extensive as windows.

People who enthuse over Linux tend to be highly computer literate and not the average user

Linux is a highly stable, well maintained operating system which is available to run on a wide variety of host computers. Unlike Windows, it is a command line system and thus has far less by way of overheads, but at the same time it does expect that you complete

Y know what you are doing.

No it does not, all Linux updates are optional. Linux is vastly superior to Windows in terms of security, portability, and efficiency. Linux can be ran with as little as a 100mb of storage and 64mb of RAM, even the distros we consider "heavy weight" like Ubuntu are still far more lightweight than Windows.

The only issues with Linux operating systems is support. Microsoft has a monopoly and so most PCs come with Windows, so most software is made without Linux in mind. Linux has an incredibly good selection of technical and business software, but severely lacks in games. If you mainly use your desktop PC for gaming, you'd be quite disappointed with Linux.
