control panel error in windows vista?

hello,

when i open the control panel it just asks me either to restart the program or check online for solution and i cant access any of the options in the control panel. btw its in windows vista

Re-starting the Software Licensing service seemd to take care of it for me. So the control panel seems to depend on this service!



Service Restart steps:



(If you have access to the Start button):



1) Click the Start button



2) Type: cmd in the Start Search field



3) At the top the Start window, you will see cmd.exe



4) Right Click cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator



5) Type: net start slsvc







(If you do not have access to the Start button):



1) Click the option that launches an Internet Browser



2) A Browser will open, type: %windir%\system32 into the address field



3) Find the file cmd.exe



4) Right Click on the cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator



5) Type: net start slsvc

You could Try this before doing

a Windows reinstall





Click the round vista Start Tab

where it says start search, type "cmd",

then click enter.



In the dialog box type

"services.msc"

then click enter



When the List of Services opens

scroll through and look for

"Software Licensing"



Click on "Software Licensing"



Next Change the properties to

Automatic by right clicking and choosing properties

from the small menu

In the next window look for

Start Up type

Then use the pull down tab and choose Automatic



Click Apply

Then OK



Be sure to click "start" or "restart"

(located in the upper left corner)

in the Service List Window

before you close the Service List Window

my frnd had similar problems...comp. retsarts if u open control panel.

she had dual OS in her system.



may b reinstalling, solve the prob.
