Control panel items of Windows Vista not opening?

Question

Continuing problem with my control panel in that several items do not open, windows defender cannot complete a scan and windows update does not function. My computer is virus free and have already tried to reinstall defender. Any ideas?

ty booting in safe mode then go to C:\ drive right click go to properties then tools.

then error checking tick little box to fix errors

then reboot

on reboot windows will scan disk and fix any errors on it then restart

Sounds like a cracked Windows. Badly cracked, like some of those old cracks that emulates BIOS. Another side of a problem is I/O errors. You can have drive errors, or even those unrepairable errors due to hard drive soon fail (check the status of S.M.A.R.T.)

As a workaround. circulate on your abode windows laptop, authentic click the mouse button on an empty section and choose New->Shortcut type administration.exe on the region field, click next, call the shortcut "administration Panel" and click end. you've got administration Panel now.
