I'm making a vmware virtual PC and when you set it up it asks for the type of the OS, and i'm unsure please help - BTW Kali is a linux OS

Choose "Other Linux 64-bit" or "Other Linux", depending on whether your installer ISO is 64 or 32 bit.

Hello, Kali is based on Debian, so you need to chose debian, question is which version. Maybe try debian 7 64 bit

And another thing I would offer to download kali image for vmware, not to try install yourself.

Debian. If your computer is 64-bit use that. And I believe that yes it is Debian 7.
