I need a picture of a teacup sitting in a specific position for a school assignment, and so I took a photo of it so I could see how it would be shaped exactly. I was planning on just making an outline of the shape in Photoshop (I work on Photoshop CS4) but I'm not entirely sure what tools and that I should be using just in order to create the outline of the shape. Anyone got any ideas for me? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The new quick selection tool in CS4 is custom built for exactly this type of selection. You should, if the tool preferences are set up correctly, be able to click on the cup with this tool and it will automatically select the cup in isolation for you to then either copy/cut out to a separate layer.

That said, there are many many ways to do this in Photoshop. The magnetic lasso is great if you hand is steady enough, or you could resort to a selection mask to make sure that everything you want selected from the original is selected.

Good Luck

Magnectic lasso would be easiest if it has a plain background. Then go to select, modify and border and fill it in black to make an outline. The pen tool is more complicated but would make a good outline if you have the time. Go on youtube and search Pen tool photoshop and look at some tutorials if you have time.

Umm, i've got self assurance you ought to continuously in simple terms hint that sunlight utilising the pen gadget no? in simple terms initiate out with a around direction to cover the sunlight, then hint subpaths utilising shift to maintain your strains as we communicate.. Then, once you're achieved, suitable click and "save as custom shape". not purely will this create the form you decide on, even with the undeniable fact that it's going to make it a vector, which would be resized with out any documents loss (unlike raster products).

Try the magnetic lasso.
