Question:
Origin on Linux Mint 15?

I changed my computer from Windows 7 to Linux Mint 15 2 days ago. I had many windows games which I wanted to continue playing, so I installed Wine. I'm confused, having only had Linux Mint 15 for 48 hours and being a mere 15 year old girl. I installed Origin with my Wine application. Also, the Origin file is in the Program Files x86 folder, a shortcut(just text for the terminal) and the Origin.exe file is on the desktop. Also, after a different yahoo answers question answer, I got plaonlinux. I installed my Origin.exe file onto playonlinux, but when I open it all it does is try to open the file and say that Origin has crashed. Where do I put the file so I can open Origin? Also, when I DO put Origin in the correct place, what do I type into the terminal to open it? Is there another program/file/application I should download? If you could link me to it that'd be much appreciated. Also, please use detail in your answer, I'm slow. :) Thanks

Wine does not support all the games. So, I am not sure whether it will work or not.

One other option is to use the Virtualbox and play inside the Virtualbox

You need to install the Virtualbox first through the software center for Linux Mint.

You can watch Youtube videos on how to do this.

After you have Virtualbox installed, go to:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/where-can-i-download-windows-7-iso-i-have-a/7d964b05-2be9-4800-bc7f-3ca30356fc3d

... and download the Windows ISO so that you can install it inside the Virtualbox. Again you can watch the videos on Youtube on how to do this.

you besides would ought to place in playon (which expands the understanding of wine) and circulate for gaming purposes. i can't answer questions approximately gaming in Linux because of the fact i do no longer play video games making use of a working laptop or laptop.

What works

Install

Run (with workaround, see below)

Friends List / Chat

Game Library

Store

Notifications

Downloading games (mostly)

What does not

Text looks a little fuzzy

Systray Icon (shows up but nothing happens when clicked).

Games download very slowly

What was not tested

Nothing I can think of.

Additional Comments

Installed to fresh Wine prefix. No problems, and launched immediately after install. After closing first time, when I tried to reopen it, nothing happened, and the log showed an error "can't find qtsvg4.dll". Installed Qt from [1] and launched again, this time successfully.

Upon starting a download, it will appear to hang on "Preparing Download" for a few minutes. If left alone, the confirmation box eventually pops up. Tried downloading Plants vs Zombies to test. Glad I chose that one, because average speed is 2-3 KB/sec.

I think Origin should be rated higher than it has been previously. Yes, the purpose is to be able to run games, but I don't think that should affect the rating of Origin itself. The only problems I see are the Qt dll, and the download-related problems.

Hey,

Check here http://j.mp/1uSGVRt if you want to get for free: Plants VS Zombies

With this link you can get the full version completely free.

Plants vs. Zombies is one of the most popular zombie killing games of the world. This is an entirely different approach to zombie games, as it is not serious and has tons of humor

Hope it helps.
