how do i make objects non-selectable in maya?

im kinda new to maya and i come from 3ds max, and i cant find how to make an object non selectable, kindof like freeze in 3ds. cause when i click drag to select i keep selecting things i do not want to.

A few things you could do:



Assign objects to different layers, then turn the layers visibility off, or you turn them to R for Reference (which locks them) to T for Template which will lock them.



Also, just RMB click on top of the object to bring up the Marking Menu > Actions > Template or Reference, etc
