Access and Excel version problem?

I realize that sometimes using excel files in a newer version of excel or access files in a newer version of access creates problems and data is lost etcetera. But what about importing data from excel 2000 to access 2003? Because it's changing files types anyway and all it's doing is pulling text and numbers out of the excel file (very few formulas or complex formatting in the file) should there be a problem?

you should be OK importing the old excel files into the new version of either. The main issue is backwards compatibility. You can go forward to newer versions but not backwards automatically. You can force the backward compability mode in the newer version (when you save) but you will loose any new features and that can cause problems.

Your best bet is to upgrade the file to the highest version of Excel possible and then export that data into Access. When working with the Office suite, Microsoft puts the most effort into making their products compatible with the rest of that year's offerings and NOT to making anything backwards compatible. Once you get to that point then you shouldn't have a problem though.

Probably not, but be sure to keep a backup copy of the 2000 excel before you import. Then compare.

Your suitable wager is to enhance the report to the utmost version of Excel attainable and then export that information into get right of entry to. while working with the workplace suite, Microsoft places the main attempt into making their products compatible with something of that twelve months's alternatives and to no longer making something backwards compatible. as quickly as you get to that element then you definitely would not have a difficulty however.

My experience with all of this has always been you can go up, but not back...in other words you can open 2000 in 2003, but once you go up, you can't bring it back to 2000....
