I have an iBook running on os x 10.2.8 and i want to update it to a more recent version, I've tried looking on apple.com for downloads but have had no luck, also every time i open the software update it says "No new software updates were available" when i know that at least my iTunes is outdated. i did update my iTunes to a more recent version than I had, but it's still not the latest.

Version 10.2.8 was the last version of OS X released in the 10.2.x branch. The next version Apple released was 10.3, which is a paid upgrade, not a free update. That's why you don't see it in the Software Update panel.

If you were to purchase an upgrade today, it wouldn't be 10.3, it would be 10.5, which is the latest version.

However, before making that purchase, you'll want to check the system requirements for version 10.5 and make sure that your iBook is compatible. If it isn't, then the only way to upgrade is to get a newer computer.

Your computer is too old for updates, but if it was newer what you would do is buy a new update from the apple website or store

You have to purchase an update disc. There is no free upgrade available.
