Windows service is an application that starts when the Microsoft Windows operating system is booted and runs in the background as long as Windows is running. Typically, it does not have a user interface and is a long-running executable application that can run in its own session. It is very similar in concept to a Unix daemon.

Once a service is installed, its attributes can be modified by launching "Services" from the Windows Control Panel Administrative tools.

And to answer your question: you can not remove or delete it!

The appropriate uninstall option of the application should remove the Windows service that it has installed. There is an EXE called sc.exe which helps you do to this (part of NT Option Pack) but use it very carefully.

Windows Services are in the most part very important to your system working correctly.

A very informative site for what the services do and what services might be helpful to disable or put into manual state rather than automatic can be found at:

Very knowledgeable person and explains services in a very easy manner.

Right click on my computer icon on the desktop and select manage. There you can find services and management. You can start or stop services there.

Regarding uninstall, go to control panel > Add remove programms > Add remove windows components. You can easily install or un-install window components. However you may need your Windows CD to install programs sometimes

What do you mean? Windows services like windows messenger, media player, IIs, which is defaultly installed in your computer? Then you can go to control panel, add remove programs, instead of removing programs go to add/remove windows component at the left pane of the window. If its not, I don't know...
