Every time I click NEW in Autodesk Inventor 2011, it will freeze the program up. It doesn't matter how I go about clicking it whether in the Ribbon UI or File-->New. It started about four months ago and I got the program in May. It was working before just fine.

You might want to try and do an install fix, or just re-install the program all together.

As far as Solidworks being an industry standard. What industry would that be? Inventor and Solidworks are both used any many industries. I work for a company who provides training for both programs, and we have more Inventor users. They are both very good programs, it just comes down to your personal preferences.

There is no such thing as "AutoCAD Inventor". The company Autodesk makes both AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor, as two separate software packages. AutoCAD is a software of which I recommend against. It is difficult to learn no matter how much experience you have with other software...and it DOES NOT like to "play well with others". AutoCAD is a 2-dimensional CAD package. If you want to use something similar, I recommend Graphisoft ArchiCAD. Autodesk Inventor is a 3-d design package, which will produce 2-d projections for you. Good for designing machine parts and assemblies.

Isn't SolidWorks the industry standard anyway?
