Our windows media player will play music, but not dvd's. I have installed all the drivers for all the different components (sound, video, motherboard drivers, ect.). This is the exact error message that pops up: Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer. Please help!

Same problem I am having. I wound up downloading a different player to play DVD's.....VLC media player. I use to be able to play them with windows media player until I formatted.....media player 11 won't play them alone without a decoder, WHICH does not come with the player.

You need to download and install and dvd decoder to play dvds. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/plugins.aspx

Or you can also purchase dvd software stand alone.
