Hello

You can try

1,启动盘启动computer with Windows, if the computer from the CD-ROM drive started, can also use Windows CD-ROM your computer.

2, when there Welcome to the installation screen, the R button to select the repair option.

3, if you're using a dual-guided or guided computer, select from the failure to restore control panel of Windows installed.

4, when prompt you for your administrator password, type the password.

Note: If there is no administrator password, according to the ENTER key.

5, the command prompt, type chkdsk / r, then press ENTER key.

6, the command prompt, type exit, then press ENTER key to restart your computer.

If this process does not work, please repeat this process, in Step 5 in order not to use fixboot chkdsk / r order

An old standard 98 SE computer will not run XP properly. If I remember correctly from those days 98 used to run on 64 or 128 Mb RAM. XP will run on 256 Mb but to make it work properly it needs at least 512 Mb. Also 98 will not upgrade properly. You need a clean install with a XP OS disc.

98 is old hat now and not supported anymore by anyone. Personally I think your wasting your time trying to update. You really need to get a new computer. As I said it's greatly under powered to be any good.

Boot with the Windows CD and choose r for pepair. When the screen open it will list windows as 1, Press 1, when the next screen come up, type : fixmbr, press enter, answer yes. Next screen type : fixboot, press enter, answer yes. Next screen type: exit. It will reboot, but be sure you remove the CD before it does. You have just fixed the boot sector of the hard drive. If you still have the same situation, try to boot into safe mode. When in sfae mode wait a minute and them reboot. Sometimes Windows will get confused as to what it is suppose to do. If neither work, then you need to consider booting with a Linux LiveCD and get your important files off the computer, because your only option left is reinstall Windows.

The way you upgrade from win98se to winxp

Place your xp cd in cd rom. rebvoot computer, starting up from cd rom and not hard drive. You can change that with the bios.

You will then have to press any key to start up from cd.

You should not format your computer and install xp as a complete install. You should install it as an upgrade. As far as I remember, you will be advised to install it as upgrade.

The advantage is, that programs you used in wen98, sometimes will not work in XP. Now you install xo over win98se. you will still be able to use most of those programs
