Question:
How To Reinstall Windows CE Or Install Linux?
?

I Have A 7" Notebook which was bought this year (2010) that has windows CE on. It doesn't have a disc drive or floppy but only a sd card slot and usb ports. It has a 300mhz processor and 128mb of ram, both soldered directly to the board. What i would like to do is reinstall windows ce or linux. Linux would be the best option but i have tried to install through usb and had no luck. As soon as you turn on the device, there is no bios logo / button to press but instead goes straight to windows ce loading screen and then goes onto system initialising which says: USB...OK, Touchpad...OK, SD...OK, RAM...Ok ETC.

Any ideas?

thanks

You have to get to your bios to change the boot order to place the usb flash drive first in the boot order. Various computer use different keys to access the bios. You can trial and error pressing different keys when you start up the netbook or go to the manufacturers website and look for the documentation.

If you have only 128MB ram and 300MgHz processor there are many linux distros that will not run on those specs. Most require at least 256 ram and 500 MHz cpu. There are only a couple that will run on those specs like DSL (damn small linux).

to respond to your query: in case you have sufficient disk area, you do not could reinstall domicile windows and you do not could format the hard disk (except you're making a brilliant MISTAKE - be careful!). in case you have sufficient unfastened disk area, you are able to resize the domicile windows rigidity/s to launch sufficient space for Linux to be put in - and that relies upon on the distribution you desire to apply (Ubuntu recommends 5GB). you will possibly desire to apply a application (partition magic from interior of domicile windows, gparted from Linux, or despite you're delicate with and understand a thank you to apply) to cut back the domicile windows partition and create the unfastened area for Linux. then you definitely format the unfastened area to create the (2 or 3 or 4) partitions for Linux {/swap and / - and maybe /boot and /domicile}. you are able to now do this all as area of the Linux setting up technique or you are able to set up the partitions till now from interior of domicile windows beforehand of beginning the setting up - I set it up till now just to make confident each thing is in place, and cut back my probabilities of springing up a severe errors. in case you have not got sufficient unfastened disk area to create the mandatory Linux partitions you are able to hold out a little severe mirrored image on what you desire to do. Backup and do away with previous archives, song, photos, and so on., or in case you have a private computing gadget upload a clean hard disk, or ?????
