2.change other defaults if can.

3 right click the file go to property and change the optio which says open with.

unfortunetly u missed detailes like . operating system and the nature of the file .. if u repost please provide OS version and whatever info u get in the genral field in properties..

Uh oh, was it a downloaded file? I doubt it was your own video right? It might be too late, but I recommend deleting that video right now, scan with an anti-virus and hope that it's just the extension properties that were affected, not windows media play entirely! If so you might have to reinstall it! Obviously some sort of virus-spyware that's designed to do harm. It's probably better than other types of virus you can't find. Thing is, double-clicking on a video opens up WMP right? But if a program or an application were to have to exact same icon, when you double-click on it, it will launch that application and can do irreversible damage to windows. One solution if you wish to keep downloading videos from "un-trustable" sources is to never open a video/audio/image file directly. First open WMP, then drag it in the player window, if it's a virus or program, it will say "unknown/unexpected file format". Same thing with mp3 files. For images, usually right-click and press "preview"...if there's no preview option, it might mean it's not even an image!!

Just for fun, after all that, have you seen the video? Is it actually one or you never got to open it?

Good luck!

What's the file you tried to open with windows media player?

It sounds like you opened an executable file with wmp but had the"always use the selected program to open this kind of file" option ticked. Media players don't open anything but music and videos hence the "media" in windows media player.

I would do a system restore if I were you.

hi,

in Vista(for other the basic is same)

right click on one of them, go to "open with", then "choose default program...", then you have options, chose one.

after all of the files systems of the same types will be changed to what you have nominated.

kind regards

if u can play sound. yet one specific document does not play. the document could have been moved. if u can not not play any sound in any application. verify you audio placing. or reinstall the soundcard driving force or you're able to be picking a document which you have not chosen WM participant to play. verify the extenstion of the document( ideal click on it. and goto homes) then verify strategies ---> document types interior WM participant
