OK here's the deal, I have downloaded a DVD torrent that is 676 MB with an AVI format. Now you can not burn AVI format onto a DVD-R 4.7 GB 2hrs at least with my "Ulead Movie factory Toshiba(burner)." ...

So, used my "Free Video Converter" (format converter) to change my AVI video file into Mpeg1, after I converted it I was able to burn it onto the DVD-R.(with a bitrate of I believe 1500, I don't quite understand what it is But,

the catch was the file was now 1.05 GB instead of the 676 MB it was. I though that was ok because the DVD-R holds 4.7 GB 2 hrs and my video was only 1hr 49 min with 1.05 GB. Next...

Next, I open up my Ulead Toshiba Burner got everything ready but the video was exceeding the DVD-R by about 30 min of the video.

Ok that what I've done, basically I need help on getting this to work. Why would the video not fit on the DVD-R if the video is only 1.05 GB and 1hr 49min and the DVD-R is 4.7 GB and 2hrs???
I've tried now converting the format to Mp4 (is this the same as Mpeg4 ?) which I read might make it fit.
So all in all make questions are
Why would the video not fit on the DVD-R if the video is only 1.05 GB and 1hr 49min and the DVD-R is 4.7 GB and 2hrs???
Should I convert the video to another format??
What are bitrates and Mbits and are they the same thing?Should I change the bitrate?
Is the a better Video converter and DVD burner?
Not sure if this makes big enough incentive to thoroughly answer my question, but I will give you best answer. Also you can email callex21@yahoo or IM (if it works) callex21 also.
Thanks alot hope someone can anwser this big mess.
PS I've asked this question before and got sh8tty answers!

Tell me, were you trying to burn the video using Ulead Movie Factory to a DVD-R so you could play the DVD to a regular dvd player? If your answer is yes, then I can answer some of your questions. I had that same kind of problem before with Nero Vision. Ulead Movie Factory and Nero Vision are both dvd authoring and burning softwares.

Unlike, Ulead Movie factory, Nero Vision can author and burn avi files to dvd. But like your MPEG 1 file, my AVI files, which I thought would fit in a DVD, usually exceeds the DVD-R.

I figured out that that happens because, DVD authoring softwares like ulead movie factory and nero vision have some sort of bugs that tends to increase the file size of "non-dvd compliant video files". When I say non-dvd compliant is that it's not in VOB format, which is the standard dvd format.

I just qouted this from ulead technical faqs, "Aside from the video file, additional information will be written to the disc: lead-in area (storing the table of contents); lead-out area (marking the end of a burning session); and file system information. The actual size to be burned to disc may therefore be larger than the data size shown in the Disc-space Meter or the Burn Disc dialog box."

So, my suggestion to you is first, check out your video settings first in Ulead Movie Factory. In my nero vision, I set the video to NTSC, Standard Play DVD, 720x480 video resolution in 5,073 bitrate and Dolby Digital 5.1 Channels.

If you set Ulead that way, and the problem is still there, then you have to convert your downloaded avi file to VOB. Use erightsoft's Super to convert it. Here's the link:

http://www.videohelp.com/tools/SUPER

Here's a basic guide on how to use it:

http://forum.videohelp.com/images/guides/p1608146/basicsuperguide.pdf

To convert avi to vob, set super to:

Output container: DVD Std. compliant (vob)

Output video codec: Mpeg-II

Output audio codec: AC3 (for dolby digital) or mp2 (for regular stereo sound)

Select encoder: ffmpeg

Video scale size: 720x480

Aspect ratio: 4:3

Frame/sec: 29.97

Video Bitrate: 5760 (for standard dvd quality) or 1150 (for standard vcd quality)

Channels: 6 (for 5.1 channel dolby surround quality) or 2 (for regular stereo sound)

Audio Bitrate: 448 (for Dolby) or 224 (for regular stereo quality)

After you have converted it, load the vob file to Ulead and tell me if it still didn't fit.
