I have opted for a course in oracle 11g DBA, which requires me to install vmware, linux and an oracle software on my system, My system configuration settings are as follows: MS Windows XP, service Pack 2, Intel[R] Pentium[R] 4 CPU 3.06 GHz, 0.99GB of RAM. I have come to know that vmware installation require atleast 1 GB RAM and i do have 1 GB RAM, but i want to know whether i can install vmware, linux and oracle software on my system. If this isn't feasible then please suggest me with some remedy. would be really obliged on receiving a quick solution in this regard. Thank you.

Hi,

You can install vmware on Windows XP SP2 with 1GB ram and able to install Linux on same. No problem for this task.

Because When you are installing vmware that time you should need to partition of your RAM that time you can provide 512 MB ram to Guest operating system(Linux) of Vmware and spare rest of RAM to actual operating system(Windows XP).

But when you want to install Oracle on Linux (guest operating system) of vmware that time you will get problem of slowness because at least 1 GB ram requires for installation.

Means your both system will be affect heavy slowness. If you are able to expand your RAM then it is very good but if you haven't any option then you should need to do following.

As per installation process of vmware, kindly partition your RAM with 512 as given instruction above. When you are going to install that time spare SWAP space at least 3GB and finish your Linux installation. After that carry out installation of Oracle 11g. It will install.

You will get problem of system slowness and oracle 11g slowness. But if you don't want to expand RAM then you should need to bare it.

All the Best.

You acturally can.

I once run two OS at the same time(in fact I run 3 OS at the same time if including my actural OS), an XP and a 2003 in my 1.5GB ram. There's no problem.

But I persuade you to enlarge your virtual ram in case of the crash of ram and turn down useless programs when u use the vmware.

you will might desire to enhance you laptop, basically strengthen your RAM to 3/4GB using fact with digital machines and db's lot of RAM would be necessary. you will might desire to allocate a minimum of 1GB RAM for digital device, maximum probable you would be installation Oracle corporation Linux on VM to run DB.
