I have downloaded a movie and want to put it on a cd-r. I do not have any dvd+r's available at this moment. I am trying to make a vcd with a movie on it. Every time I set it up and it's under 700mb, it starts to encode and then it says file is to big insert another disk. How can I compress the movie so it will fit onto the cd-r? I need detailed information step by step on how to do it. The most detailed answer gets 10 pts.

Thanks

Well, you cant.

CD-Rs can only hold 700mb of data, and if i remember right, 80minutes of sound/video

So if the movie is under 1:15 (hours/minutes) (roughly) then you should be able to, but if its longer, it wont fit.

I think that your video is too big and cant be copy in the cd also compressing the video file will NOT help because it will not decrease in size. if you have a while folder of the move then just copy the movie file and try....if you are making VCD that autoplays in other system or dvd/cd player then I dont think you can do it.

guide with pictures using Nero

I prefer convertXtoDVD, CDburnerXP or Winavi.

Anyway, the point is that whatever you use, it's the same as when you make music cd's to play on standard players, it will only hole a certain amount of time, a VCD will only play up to 80mins of video so you will most likely need to burn the movie over 2 CD's.

It doesn't matter what compression ratio you use or what software, it will only ever play an 80min VCD.

I know it's not the ideal solution but that's how it is I hope it helps, at least you know know you only need to use another CD.

just use a video editor to cut out a couple seconds to get it under 650 mbs, .mov .avi and .wmv work fine
