Question:
Microsoft Word: Why is there a abnormal large space between two lines of text?

I am trying to make a Microsoft Word document, and I noticed there is a huge gap on the second page (shown in the picture below). As you can see in the picture, there is a huge space between the two S's and I have no idea why.

Yes, I have tried to change the line spacing options to single and have also adjusted the Before and After pts to 0. However, the space continues to exist. No matter what I type (or if I hit enter, tab, or simply finish the line for that matter), the first line will jump all the way down to that second line you see.

Another thing that's odd is that if I hit enter after the second S, the S's get closer. If I hit it about 10 times, the S's return to the normal single spacing level. However, the corresponding lines still have the same problem at this point. Could it be the header? it consists of a picture and one line of text.

I've done everything I could think of, but no desirable result was achieve. I've created another document and copied and pasted all of the info into it and the problem is no longer there. However, I'd still like to know what is causing this problem. Does anybody know anything about this problem?

Press Shift-F1 to open the Reveal Formatting task pane. Click in different areas to see exactly what formatting is applied in that area.

Also the top margin is hidden. This affects only the way the doc displays on the screen and not the way it prints. Move the cursor to the top of the document and the cursor will change to 2 arrows facing each other and say "Double-click to show/hide white space. Do this and you will again see the top margin and the space between pages.

There is probably something hidden there that's using the space. Offhand I don't recall how, but in "view" or somewhere there's a way to show formatting marks. I'm guessing there's a picture placeholder or an empty table or the like. You can't see it but there's a formatting mark that will show it's there. Your text is just wrapping around it. Just a guess but I can't imagine what else it could be.

Have you tried closing and reopening MS Word?
