Question:
Mac Icons?
2007-07-05 00:25:48 UTC
I just got a macbookr and everytime I download something it puts an icon on the desktop. I like to have them all down in the bar at the bottom. Does this make sense to anyone? Do you know how to move those icons or make them go away. If I delete them then I can't open the program.

If the icon has a little arrow at the lower left then it is an alias and you can delete it. If not then it is the icon for the application itself. or the install file. Just move this over to where you want to store downloads.

Once you install the application and open it you will see the icon in the dock (toolbar) click on the icon and you have the option to keep it in the dock.

You need to put those icons in your applications folder.

Open a new finder window (if you are in Finder, which will show in the upper left corner,) hit CMD{apple} N to open a new window.

Then pull those icons to your applications folder. Then open each program one by one. WShen you open them, right click or click and hold on the icon in the toolbar (at the bottom as you said) and a menu will pop up. There will be an option on there that says "leave in dock"

Select that one, and that icon will stay on your dock.

Are you talking about the Dock? That's a feature of the Mac. It's very useful when you get used to it, it provides shortcuts to programs. To delete items off it, click and drag the icon off. You can still start the program by double-clicking on your hard drive, clicking Applications in the sidebar, and looking through there. You can auto-hide the dock by clicking the Apple logo in the corner of the screen, going to Dock and clicking Turn Hiding On.

Hope this helps!
