hi! i downloaded the minix 3.1.2a operating system for a project. i tried installing it on my computer but when i get to the point where i have to type in the command "packman" to install the software that came with it, i cannot install the X windows software package. the other 45 i can install successfully but not X windows. it says that it cannot find a particular driver. what is wrong with it and what should i do?

the manuals i downloaded didn't mention anything about that so i pretty much have no idea how to deal with it... please, can anybody help???

btw, i burned the image onto a CD so i have a minix bootable CD. :-)

im not familiar with minix, but it sounds like you're running a livecd. do you see a graphical interface at all or is it all text? if you want to install, you might have to partition and format your hard drive, which you probably do not want to do since this is just for a project and you don't want to destroy all your data on your computer. you should back up everything before you start with anything.

well, if you're prepared to format, then give it a shot. im pretty sure it has something to do with your partitioning or drive permissions. but then again, if its a livecd, you should be able to use it as if its the real thing. sorry, cant be of much help.

have you ever seen examining the handbook? It tells you the thank you to run the disk manually. additionally, attempt giving the disk a sparkling with a rag. i've got not had this subject. Stick a CD (like a music cd) into your disk force and notice in the experience that your laptop recognizes that. If it does not you are going to ought to get your computing device fixed by potential of a professional as your disk force might have corrupted.

See the web link to check if you read the directions on how to install it. It is a LiveCD according to the web site.
