Question:
How to setup ssh port forwarding?

Hey. I want to be able to connect to my computer from outside of my local network using ssh (from the command line). I have logged into my linksys router via http, but I'm a bit confused on how to use port forwarding. Can someone explain how I can get my router to forward any ssh requests to my computer?

Thank you in advance!

get the IP address of your computer by opening command prompt and typing ipconfig.

once you have the IP address, login to your linksys router then go to port forwarding.

one you are there, just say port 22 and then type in the ip address of your computer so that ssh will be forwarded to your computer. Port Forwarding is also called static PAT. PAT stands for Port Address Translation and is synonymous to NAT Overload.

http://www.portforward.com

Use the site above to get instructions on how to forward ports on your router. To forward SSH, your router may have ports defined by name. If there is no port called SSH, use port 22.

Go to http://192.168.1.1/Forward.asp

Add a forward for start 22 and end 22 to the internal IP address (the one starting with 192.168.1) of the computer you want to connect to. Check the Enable box. Save Settings (button at the bottom).
