* Includes extended support for security between multiple users on the same machine.

* Better support for peer-to-peer networking, plus support for joining a "Windows NT domain."

* The backup utlity is installed by default.

* The Professional edition includes the following components not found in the Home edition:

o Administrative Tools (in the Start Menu and Control Panel)

o Automated System Recovery (ASR)

o Boot Configuration Manager

o DriverQuery

o Group Policy Refresh Utility

o Multi-lingual User Interface (MUI) add-on

o NTFS Encryption Utilitiy

o Offline Files and Folders

o OpenFiles

o Performance Log Manager

o Scheduled Tasks Console

o Security Template Utility

o Tasklist

o Telnet Administrator

* Provides support for multi-processor systems (2 or 4 CPUs), Dynamic Disks, Fax.

If you are using this on a regular private home computer and have to pay for this then XP home will run just as fast as pro.

As for who likes Vista better? Some high end gamers using DirectX 10 maybe. Microsoft and people selling computers like Vista the most.

Security configurations are the biggest difference. XP Professional is designed to be on a work computer, where things can be controlled and customized accordingly. XP Home is designed for the average consumer where these settings are either not known, or not needed.

As far as Vista is concerned, it consumes a lot of resources, is still buggy and insecure, and incompatible with some applications. It reminded me of the days when Windows 98 converged to Windows ME.

Another words, its personal preference, and a lot of bells and whistles that not everybody is happy about at the moment.

XP professional has a few extra features that home doesn't have, like IIS server and the ability to join a domain.

I like vista. For a new computer, Vista would probably work out well for you. I would not recommend getting Vista on an older computer though.

Actually, if this is a custom computer, there is a risk with Vista - a vast majority of the Vista problems are with drivers. Custom hardware means custom drivers need to be written for that hardware. Smaller companies who do custom builds don't always have the latest drivers.

hi,

for home purpose you can use home version but in business you should use pro version. The differences: xp home - allows on max 5 connections (for example sharing a printers, etc), xp pro has very good tools for example managing user rights.

In my opinion vista is not ready yet to use in business purpose, you can have problems with compatibility with older version of programs

I never had a problem with xp. I bought a special edition HP Pavilion dv 2500 laptop and it came with Vista...I have constant trouble with it. It glitches and the icons scramble on the desktop and taskbar. I wish I had my Sony Vaio with xp back again.
