In business situations where Linux is used, is it more likely to be in a command line interface or graphical user interface?

Is Ubuntu used in business environments?

How much similarity is there between different GUI versions of Linux? Do they all mainly use the BASH shell as their core?

Ubuntu can be used in a Business Environment, but then you have to license to product.

It is mainly a GUI based OS very similar to Windows 3.X. where Windows 3.X required DOS and windows sat on top of DOS to provide a GUI Ubuntu sits on it's customized version of Linux.

The version are very similar in the sense that it's GUI based and all GUI's are pretty much the same. Thanks to Microsoft they have standardized several features of the GUI. Because it sits on Linux the GUI is just a basic sent of commands that preform certain task and at essence it is just BASH Scripts

Well, Linux in businesses is more likely to be in servers rather than desktops so it probably would be command line. Ubuntu is used in some business environments- Google is rumored to use it quite a bit. I don't think it has quite the penetration in servers that RHEL or SUSE does.

The thing about distributions is that there really aren't that many differences between them. There are two main desktop environments used in Linux: KDE and Gnome. KDE looks prettier (and more like Windows), Gnome is a bit more original. Neither is that hard to get around in. Ubuntu actually switched to using the Debian Almquist Shell (dash) as the default login shell since it's faster though I believe the terminal emulators still use bash by default. It's still the same basic syntax but it's much more lightweight. Many people tend to forget that bash is not the only POSIX-compliant shell out there

In most business environments, the GUI is used on the client end and both the GUI and command line are used on the server end.

Ubuntu is used in business environments. Red Hat is more widespread because they offer certifications like the RHCE as well as enterprise support contracts.

As for similarities in GUIs, they can be pretty different. The latest versions of Gnome and KDE are radically different.
