Question:
Why does my computer keep crashing? How can I fix it?
2010-10-15 11:03:45 UTC
My computer suddenly started crashing randomly especially while playing games (for example COD MW crashes at a certain point in the game, but I know it's not the problem with the game because other games started crashing the exact same way, the OS it's self crashes, it's not the games because I have been playing the same games for a long while and they have never crashed), even genuine games. When it crashes the CPU fan is at it's max, the computer doesn't seem to be accepting any input, the sleep button doesn't even work.

I haven't done anything recently to the computer that might give me problems how ever a while ago I updated my graphics card driver for my 7300LE graphics card. The problems started later.
How do I fix it, I know it's most likely to be with the new driver, but if it's not how do I fix it or roll back to a previous driver.

My specs are
HP pavilion desktop ...
pentium d, 2.5gb ram, nvidia geforce 7300LE 64MB (play COD on low settings).
Windows Vista Home Premium with out SP1
Every time I try to install SP1 with both methods; downloading the installer or through windows update I get an error half way through the installation and in windows update it's not there,
Also, my computer suffers from update conflict in which multiple updates try to work together and end up eaing all your RAM (no solution).

sounds to me like your computer is messed up so heres your options

1. Backup everything to hardrive then reinstall windows and see if it still crashes if it does then unlucky your computer is wrecked if it dosnt its a file on your pc thats making it crash try and find any bad files

2. Tune Up

www.systweak.com and download advanced system optmizer and get your pc tuned up for $21.00

^Best method i own it and well its amazing^

Or download Ccleaner and clean your reg and junk files and also defrag your pc (Free)

3. Use advanced system optmizer driver updater tool

Old drivers can cause software problems keeping them fully updated to stop crashes

4. Buy a new PC

Thanks hope these solve your problems

Hello. My name is Sanjay Patel, and I currently hold an honorary Master's degree in the field of Computer Science. I am aware of, and have personal knowledge related to your question. There are computer maintenance businesses which are probably in your area, however they come at the cost of hiring a professional to enter your home. There may also be some local destinations where you can drop off your computer and wait to have a technician look at it. These options can often be costly, and pretty inconvenient. The answer to this question can probably be found doing a little extra research on Google.

A well-running computer can be a hard thing to maintain. From my experience, there is but only One software which is reputable- and consistently reliable for healing sick, slow computers. Reimageā„¢ - https://reimagefix.im is a world-renown, easy to use software designed by Forensic scientists and made for the average person. This thing will fix literally just about ANY problem you could possibly be having with your PC. Reimage was recommended to me by a Professor during my 2nd year of Graduate school

There are many reasons for a CRASH. - overheat, this often occurs after 20 minutes or more use. It is noticeably worse on warm weather days. - Spyware or Viruses, often, these pests seek to reboot the computer, so it can reconfigure your hardware and software, so it can seek a way out of your computer to infect another. This can be fixed with a good anti-virus or anti-spyware scan - corrupt hard drive sectors, Here, programs or windows itself come crashing down. This can fixed with a good CHKDSK or Scandisk. Check the TOOLS section of your Hard Drive PROPERTIES screen - bad power. Here, wiring in your building is bogus, and the computer power supply simply can't keep things clean to keep your computer running. Try a UPS battery backup to see if it gets better. Then CALL an electrician In general a good maintenence schedule include: - chkdsk, scandisk or test disk - disk cleanup - defrag - check anti-virus and run full scans - check anti-spyware and run full scans - good backups of your data - remember or write down all passwords - know where all software installation disks are Good luck

Depending on the exact issue at hand, a thorough Google search may be be your best bet at resolving for yourself whatever is causing dysfunction. Nonetheless, as a computer technician who runs his own business troubleshooting, repairing, rebuilding, and optimizing computers... I can probably guide you in the right direction. However, without having your PC directly at my fingertips, I can only make general suggestions. In this case, I would surely check out the highly esteemed world-class Reimage software from https://tr.im/ReimageRepair ..

When people come into our shop and drop off their PC for repair, the first thing we do is run an initial diagnostic. For this function, I use Reimage exclusively. In many cases, I am able to diagnose very quickly what is making their computer run slow, or is giving them the crashes/freezes/errors/grief that brought them to me in the first place. After the diagnostic, in a majority of cases, Reimage is able to remedy All problems and replace any corrupted Windows files. I then proceed to charge a handsome fee for my services that took me all but 30-60 minutes to complete. Obviously sometimes I must work more, but often this is all it takes. It is a very powerful tool that would likely put me and others in my industry out of business if more people knew of it. So don't tell anyone lol, and Good Luck with your PC.

Your CPU is overheating, or your GPU is over heating... The only thing i can reccomend is getting "MSI Afterburner" and put your fan onto full blast the whole time to keep your computer cool.

Your computer is crashing because your chips have a special setting that says when the temperature is too high, then the computer will force itself to shutdown...

well for one it might be overheating, where do u have the computer when u play? if the fan is running on max when it shuts down or w.e. it could mean ur overheating it to the point it shuts down to protect itself. try to buy a small $15 fan and place it behind the computer. U need to open ur computer and take out the cooling fan, when alot of dust builds up in the fan, it starts to perform poorly, not keeping the computer cool enough. u need to buy one of those compressed air cans, and open ur computer and clean it out, do a complete clean of dust and make sure u clean that fan. I had the same problem with mine, i opened my computer and took that fan out and inside it was full of dust, after that i it worked fine. u might need to get a new time clock battery for ur motherboard, and make sure ur time and date are always right, when that battery is bad and the time and date on ur computer is wrong it can lead to problems like not being able to install programs and such. as far as ur other problems im not too familiar with it
