Question:
How do I delete an undeletable AVI file on my PC, with a "buffer overflow" warning appearing? Command Prompt?

OK somebody will be able to help me here. I downloaded an AVI file from Limewire onto my PC only to find it doesn't play, and is undeleteable because it is apparently "in use by another programme", even when there are no other visible programmes running! McAfee tells me there is a "buffer overflow" and something to do with Dllhost.exe everytime I fiddle with the file, but it is stuck and I presume it is a virus.

I know a method to open a command prompt and end processes on explorer.exe using task manager. Then apparently I am supposed to delete the file using the command prompt but don't have a clue how to do it. The file is saved in My Music - and this is what happens to me in command prompt:

It is already written:
C:\Users\JJ> and I cant remove this, so i just put after that
C:\Users\JJ>DEL\Music\Malcolm in the Middle - A day out.avi
it says the file cannot be found. how do i phrase it in order to delete the file this way?

I know its a big ask but could somebody please help me! Much appreciated x

If it says "file not found" this means that you have already deleted it. So just right click it and select "cut".

Make sure you reboot your computer before you try this, and make sure you do not have any files open.

My guess is its a trojan or backdoor, looks like you need to reformat your harddrive.

-- READ THIS IF ABOVE DOESNT WORK

PS: if no other programs are running, it is running in the background and I suspect this is the work of a keylogger, make an empty folder on your desktop and click tools, then go to advanced and make sure "display hidden programs" is checked, do a virus scan and check cmd prompt again, if all else fails...

Kaspery.com has a free virus scanner that doesnt need to be downloaded, takes a long time though.

then search for all avi files, anything with backdoor in its name, go to search and look at all hidden files, if its still not removable then it looks like you got an asian keylogger (forgot its name but its impossible to remove)

reformat your harddrrive.

I'd suggest trying a virus scan and if McAfee doesn't find it try a free scan from www.kaspersky.com.

I wouldn't start deleting just yet. Limewire is one of the biggest spreader of viruses out there...Don't help them!

it really is a left over from the game tennin ace from miniclip video games. Open your pastime manager through excellent clicking on your pastime bar. click on tactics. Scroll down and locate _tennis-ace.exe . excellent click on it. click on document area. Write down the area it truly is on your device bar. Re-open Tsk Mngr and Rt click on tennis ace back. choose "end procedure". verify end procedure.you should now have the means to delete the document. visit the area you wrote down. verify to verify if the document nevertheless continues to be.i'd also visit My workstation/ C: / application records and seem for both tennis ace or MiniClip and delete the completed document.
