Question:
Windows 7 has black screen after logon? "Memory Could Not Be Read" error?
?

Everytime I log on to my computer, the screen goes black and the "run explorer.exe" trick doesnt work. Anything I do with task manager gives me a Memory Could Not Be Read error. Task Manager is literally the only thing I can use.

I try reinstalling Win7 but when it restarts like it says it will several times during install, I get the memory error AGAIN. What do I do? Any system restore i can do without getting the Memory error?

(Instruction at 0x10006229 referenced memory at 0x01dfbf10. The memory could not be read. Click OK to terminate the program.)

This is a pretty rare event and there's no easy answer:

1. Microsoft has had some problems in the past week with updates causing a black screen but I haven't heard of a memory error displayed during this problem.

2. I'd remove and reseat my memory modules then go into BIOS and make sure all the memory modules are properly recognized.

3. If the problem still occurs, I'd boot into safe mode and see if that works.

4. If safe mode has the same problem, I'd use a CD/DVD copy of Ubuntu 9.1 and load Ubuntu from the DVD player without any install and see if Ubuntu works normally. If Ubuntu ran normally, then I'd assume it was a Windows problem and not a memory/BIOS problem.

These are the steps I'd start with. This assumes you have no warranty or someone you can take it back to for checking out.

I'd start by testing your RAM. The error is pretty specific - you have bad RAM somewhere. Try http://www.memtest.org/ - it's still the gold standard. (You're most likely going to be buying at least 1 memory module.)
