Hi,

I'm currently setting up a Dual Boot Windows XP and Windows 7. I installed Windows 7 first, then installed XP second, both installed on seperate partitions. Windows XP is on the first partition, and WIN 7 on the second. When XP installed it overwrote Windows 7's boot.ini with it's own and now I have to add in the Windows 7 boot option manually. I tried adding the line "multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micr osoft Windows 7" but this hasn't worked for me.

In summary, could you please post the contents of your Windows 7 boot.ini file from the root of your drive so I can see how it is initially set up?

Thank you in advance,

First thing is You must have installed windows xp first and in another drive the win7. its the way of intelligient.

Then on win7 its bcdedit and in winxp its boot.ini . there is no link between these two.

so. logon to win7 and type bcdedit on the run command and edit it for which one to boot first & second option. ( In bcdedit, Winxp will be displayed as windows earlier version )

But you cant do it with boot.ini in winxp . it doesnot accept that booting choice method.

so try it ot.

I have also these same method. i tried first in winxp and couldnot succeed and tried in win7 and succeeded.

Windows 7 doesn't have boot.ini neither does Vista. You should use EasyBCD to crate a dual-boot between XP and 7.

The best way would now be reinstalling Win 7.
