Question:
How can I configure Firefox to open links containing MP3s in VLC instead of QUicktime?

I would like FIrefox to open MP3s in an external VLC Media Player instance, instead of using Quicktime inside my browser window. I had it working for a few days, but apparently a Quicktime update hijacked it again.

I guess it goes by mime type for determining what application to use. I opened an MP3 link and the title bar lists it at as (audio/mpeg Object), but there is no such listing under Tools > Options > Applications. The closest thing seems to be "MPEG-4 Movie (audio/mp4)" but I already have that set to open in VLC.

What am I missing?

Thanks!

When the built-in media player doesn't work, use VLC.VLC (video lan connect) is a great open source software to play any types of video files. VLC has a built in dvd decodere and works with many different video and audio formats including OGG, MP2, MP3, MP4, DivX, HD codecs like AES3, Raw Dirac, and even support for playing back zipped files.

My little cousin grew to become into on my computing gadget sometime, and curiously she by some potential downloaded QuickTime onto my computing gadget without even understanding it. Everytime i attempted to take heed to mp3's or watch mpg's, the Quicktime participant stored popping up particularly of homestead windows Media participant. So all I did grew to become into bypass to regulate Panel, then I uninstalled the Quicktime software from my computing gadget. yet once you decide on for to maintain Quicktime particularly of uninstalling it, then i think you may open up your homestead windows Media participant and set it as your default participant.
