On boot up I get the error message below and sometimes when a new program is started. Can you tell me why?

The error message reads;
The insttruction at "0x66006041" referenced memory at "0x66006041". The memory could not be "written".
Click OK to terminate the program.
Click Cancel to debug the program.
I have tried every thing I know of to get rid of this thing. Can you help?
One person told me it is a residual from a virus that is no longer there.
I use the Avast anti virus program as well as Ewido, Ad-Aware Ccleaner and Spy Bot.
Dr. Watson sees the problem but is no help in fixing it.

First use the antivirus and antispyware software you have to run a full system scan. Do it in the windows safe mode. (AVG and avast antivirus softwares are free while a 6 month free trial for Norton is available at pack.google.com. Lavasoft's free Ad-Aware is the best antispyware to my knowledge. Also Windows Defender from Microsoft is good enough for real-time protection). This should identify the problem and most probably would solve it as well. However, if the antivirus software is unable to delete the malware, go to Norton's website and search for the name of the malware detected. Their must be some instructions posted to tackle the problem. You might have to delete the system restore points and as well delete the particular registry entries manually if the virus still regenerates on subsequent boot up of the machine. Good Luck.



PS. If you are still having trouble, use Hijack This and copy the log it generates and post it on some tech help forum. I am sure there will be plenty of people ready to help you out.



**If all else fails, its a registry problem. Registry Repair is a good trial download from download.com to remove some critical registry errors.**

This sounds like a spyware program, software and/or virus that was removed from your computer but left partial remnants. Go to the start menu, run, and type in msconfig. Click on the start up tab. Look in there and see what is starting when your computer turns on. If it is something you do not know about (a program or something unfamiliar) uncheck the box next to it and hit apply. You can safely uncheck everything so that none of these programs will will start with computer and hit apply. Reboot your computer and see if the error message appears. If it does, find a good registry cleaner and clean your registry!

There is still a program trying to startup when u boot your computer, but the file it is linked to is no longer there, to remove all unwanted startup items go into msconfig (by typing "msconfig" in Start > run)



Then a box will appear across the top there are lots of different tabs but click on the one title "startup".



This will list lots of programs trying to startup when your computer is first turned on. Untick everything u don't want to startup, I don't have anything ticked in mine apart from my antivirus/firewall - makes your computer run / start faster.



This is where all virus's / spyware hide so that they boot as soon as your computer is turned on!



You should be able to tell which ones u need and which ones u don't from the file locations / names.



When u have finished unchecking all the unwanted items click apply and restart your computer, when it restarts a box will come up saying that you have used the system configuration utility - just tick the box and the bottom and click ok and now everything should be back to normal.
