did you erase Vista yet? you need to un install vista and start with a clean drive.

re format your hard drive...if you have no option to uninstall vista, simply go to your computer clik on the properties for c, and format.

The Reason It's Shaded is because vista is a superior OS than XP.

If You Really Wanna go XP, Do this:

1. Backup All Files You Actually Want, Or Need.

2. Any Software you have installed which needs a product key will disappear like a bubble, so contact your service provider, or rummage your product key storage and get ready for reinstalling!

3. Shut Down Your computer and insert the vista disk. use it to reformat the drive where vista is installed. this is a critical part because all files in that drive will vanish, so no regrets, okay?

4. after reformat, shut down windows again, and this time, insert the XP disk. Install at in the freshly reformatted disk.

5. Yaaaay! Your using XP Now. Time For the Reinstalling Applications You Need. If You Need Help, Call An Expert.

6. If Ever There was important data loss, don't blame me. I went through that too, A LOT actually. Hahahaha. After Reinstalling, Rearrange Your Files, And You are good to go!

Before attempting to install XP on your laptop, make sure that there are XP drivers available for the laptop. Most laptops made in the last two years have hardware that is NOT Windows XP compatible. You will lose your sound, your Internet connection and have a very poor picture if you convert to XP without drivers.

To convert to XP, you will need to purchase an XP CD. Microsoft no longer sells XP, so good luck getting one. Microsoft has also stopped released updates or patches for XP. These means that the next time a bug or security hole is found in XP (the average for this is about every 6 months), Microsoft will not be fixing it. These would leave all XP computers wide open to hackers and viruses. Also software and hardware creators are no longer designing their products to work with XP. Within a year you will be unable to buy any programs or hardware that will work with your computer.

When you install XP, it will totally wipe your computer and you will lose any files (pictures, musics, documents, videos, saved e-mails, etc.) and all your programs. You will be unable to reinstall any extras that came with your laptop.

XP is a dead OS. It no longer makes sense to convert back to it. Modern computers will run better on Vista then on XP. But if you are insistent on dishing Vista, than wait a month. The release of Windows 7 is scheduled for next month. For less then you can purchase an XP CD, you can get an upgrade to Windows 7. The upgrade will not wipe your computer and you will keep all your data and other programs. You will be using an OS that will be good for the next 5-7 years (based on the average life time of previous Windows) instead of one that will be useless within 6 months to a year.

unless you are using a dual boot it's best to unistall vista and you might have to disable your antivirus program, go to http://www.supportmicrosoft.com in the search input in uninstalling windows vista a step by step instructions will tell you how to uninstall vista , backup your personnel data, also look up installing windows sevice pack 3 at the support website, also input in downgrading from windows vista to windows xp3 i hope this helps, because windows xp 3 is only a updates for windows xp 2
