Is there good freeware/shareware program for Macs that's similar to Microsoft Publisher?

I have Microsoft Office 2008 on my Mac, but it didn't come with Publisher (does Publisher even, like, exist anymore?), so I'm at something of a loss.

For a semester-long portfolio project, I need to create a tri-fold pamphlet about myself. We get "stuff" to put on this pamphlet throughout the semester, so it's more of a "work-on-it-fifteen-minutes-at-a-time" project than something that would let me "put everything together at the last minute".

The university Mac labs, I believe, have Publisher installed on them, but:
1) They're often reserved for classes, and
2) I'd have to trek over to the labs for short periods of time each week to actually/eventually get the work done.

Now, option 2 isn't all that bad, I guess, but I'm the type of person who, rather than putting something together in a short time and calling it "good", prefers to put something down and edit it periodically. So, I'd like to work on this project on my own computer, if at all possible.

I have a Mac. So, I can't use the old version of Publisher I have on disc from my old Windows machine. That's right out, unless I can procure Publisher for Mac, for cheap.

What's a good Mac alternative to Microsoft Publisher, or where might I get Microsoft Publisher for Macs, for relatively cheap?
