Tried Windows 10 and after I set everything up, it began to lock up and become unresponsive. The Internet webpages would constantly keep crashing and have to reloaded but not before it checks on Microsoft for a solution that NEVER turns up. Don't like the new outlook, hate the menus, limited to the amount of tiles you can use, games are different you have to connect through an xbox account. Back to Windows 7 until the service pack 1 but it won't improve anything. There is a reason it's free it is crap.

At the launch of Windows 10, Cortana will be available in the USA, UK, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, and China. That's seven of the 190 countries Windows 10 is launching in around the world. So if you are not living in these countries Cortana won't be available for use.Windows 10 has some bugs and problems with activation. So wait for it to get improved.

Well, here is just an insight on it...

The Pirate Bay banned Windows 10 users due to security/privacy issues..

So, metaphorically speaking, if you like changing with your window wide open, be my guest.

You can't clean install Windows 10 without going through the upgrade process above. That's because you don't have an product key as you do with Windows 7 or 8, so Windows 10 needs to activate automatically online after upgrading from an elibigle copy of Windows 7 or 8.1

You can't clean install Windows 10 without going through the upgrade process above. That's because you don't have an product key as you do with Windows 7 or 8, so Windows 10 needs to activate automatically online after upgrading from an elibigle copy of Windows 7 or 8.1.

When Windows 10 is activated, Microsoft can identify your PC and associate it with an activated and valid Windows 10 licence. This means you can perform a clean install (even on a different hard drive, so it's a good time to upgrade to an SSD if you have been running Windows on a traditional hard drive) and Windows 10 will activate without issue.

To check if Windows 10 has activated after upgrading, head to Control Panel > System and Security > System and look under Windows activation:

Only if you make "significant changes" to your PC will you have to call the Microsoft activation helpline.

To do a clean install, you'll need to return to Step 2 in the walkthough above, using the tool you downloaded to create a bootable USB drive or DVD. Once that's done, turn off your computer, install and / or remove any hard drives and SSDs you want to swap around and then boot from your USB or DVD.

If your PC won't boot from it, head into the BIOS settings (typically press Delete, F1 or one of the other F keys just after you turn your computer on) and make sure removable drives, or the DVD drive is set as the first boot device, and not a hard drive. We can't be specific about the menus and settings, since each BIOS is different.

It's all about what you need and desire. Windows 10 is a free upgrade for the first year for anyone with Windows 7 and newer, which is unheard of with Windows. Cortana is a great feature, and it works fine, however, at least on a PC, doesn't seem very neccesary. The UI on Windows 10 is absotlutey AMAZING!!!!! This design trumps that of Windows 8/8.1 by a long shot! It is a sort of fusion between 7 and 8 and I love it. It's biggest weakness in my opinion, is the same with any new operating system: not many drivers and devices support it. This includes wireless mice, printers, blutooth devices, and many other things of the sort.

Overall, this is a great new operating system, but it may not be for everybody.

Every time a new Windows OS comes out it will always be faster. However that doesn't mean it's better. There are always problems in new OS's. I've been reading there are a lot of issues with pc's that have upgraded to 10. There are too many to list but a few are:

pc's keep rebooting over/over, interface is frozen, no sound and some features are missing. Give it some time and wait for Microsoft to come out with a patch to fix those problems. The offer to upgrade for free will be around for another year.

As far as the start screen goes you will have the option to make it the way it is in 8.1. Cortana has been up and running on phones with 8.1 since 2014. For pc's its sketchy. I'm not sure if they're out of the beta phase yet on Windows 10 pc's. Last I read was it was offered to developers only. Also if you wait Microsoft might just come out with a Cortana for 8.1 pc's.

My advice is to be patient and wait OR go buy an Android phone with Windows 8.1 installed because they have Cortana. Here's a link with some info

Indeed, Windows 10 provides more facilities than Windows 8.1. However, the new system still has some flaws, such as some of its patches may cause Adobe Flash Player error. So it is not advisable to get Windows 10 until Service Pack 1 is available.

I feel that Windows 10 was more user friendly, but I may be biased due to the burning hatred I had for windows 8. I felt that it was optimized for touch screen, but seeing as the majority of people don't have touch screen interface on their home devices, this seemed a little foolish. I also felt as if my Windows 8 dragged alot. I did appreciate that it would boot faster than windows 10 does initially, but afterwards things would get laggy and not seem to work to their full potential. In spite of all the privacy settings that needed to be tweaked when transitioning to 10, I feel the overall experience and performance is exponentially better and more fluid.

Who coined the phrase: "Don't fix what ain't broke"? Nothing could be more pertinent about Windows 10. If you do decide to install it, take the long route and do it right.

Run chkdsk on all your drives before starting. I left this step out on my first install and had crash after crash. The best idea is to start with replacing the hardest working part of your PC...The hard drive. It never stops from the time you start the computer to when you stop it.

The good part about doing this is if you decide you don't like 10 after the installation, just swap back the old drive and keep using your original system.

I seriously need to know what is it that makes Microsoft so desperate they need to resort to using viral marketing to give away what last year cost $350? That is a real twister, isn't it? Is this going to be: "Today we'll take charge of your PC. Tomorrow we control the world? Not while I' still sit vertically.

Hell no. Windows 10 is banned in China and Russia for good reasons. Windows 10 is legally and act of War agaist China and Russia as an act as espiange. MS knows every thing you do, you web history, every one in your photos wether they want to or not, your encrption keys on your hard drive go strait to the NSA and the US Hack Team, MS knows and can controle what programs you have, and they can change all of your settings on a fly, your can't change the settings unless you activate, oh, and people can update thier pc's with your data useing the torrent update feature. Yeah nothing better then paying for everyones update's right, not only that, MS sees all of your passwords. Do you watch porn, better not because MS sees that too and next thing your know you are on a black list like our pour freinds in the UK and if any thing happens in your town they check the people on the black list first, aka you! .If you work make mods or into emmulation then don't use windows ten, because if you do MS will know and send the data to the FBI even if they are your legal back up's of games you own. YOu like steam, to bad because you can't use the workshop on windows ten. Want Origen too bad. Want games not from Widnows app store, well Microsoft says **** you!

Oh and don't forget that you agrea to an EULA that you have not read, because it was update after Windows 10 came out on purpose. So Windows 10=bigest virus ever. NO one would want to be around you if you use it because you put them at risk.

I installed Windows 10 and the one thing I did not like about it was the "I might be installing, I'm not sure, what do you think? See this circling thing...you'll just have to wonder about it, I might say something about that circling thing, but then again I might not, as for when it'll be ready for you to use? Just go to bed, but maybe not, because I might prompt you to hit a button for something stupid like just a simple "do you want to continue?". So if you go to bed and you wake up, surprise, I'm still not done!

Once you get it upgraded, you might see some issues, if you have a laptop, the power management I noticed won't allow me to wake from sleep mode, I literally had to push down the power button to turn it off and turn it on again. Other issues, takes a long time for the search engine to work after start up, around 20-30 minutes. Cortana doesn't really like you, nor does she care to help, imagine the worst voice navigation system in your car, Cortana is that evil twin.

Give it some time, maybe a few months Microsoft might do an update.

As a Windows 8/1 and Windows 10, I strong recommand to update to Windows 10. No more applications that takes full screen like Skype, Calculator or Notepad. Now you have full hand on your desktop as you had with Windows 7. In addition, this update is free and will ensure your PC to be up to date with all drivers and latest functionalities.

you have the option of two start screens on Win 10: the regular desktop like with Win 7 or the Win 8 view

As for whether you "should" or not, you know only you can answer this question. What I recommend you do is research Win 10 and compare its features to Win 7 and see if you think you'd like it. There are literally 100s of blogs and forums on the internet about Win 10 that will give you information to assess.

Some people are going to say "you should" and some are going to say "you should not" and it will be a subjective opinion of what they like and neither of us has anyway of knowing what you would like.

Remember you have one full year to take advantage of the free upgrade. That's plenty of time to research before jumping in the fire.

The key thing you need to research before you make the jump, is make sure your hardware devices are compatible with Win 10. Audio cards, video cards, wireless mouse, wireless keyboards, printers, scanners, cameras, and any other hardware. Thus far, the only issues I've seen have been driver updates needed for hardware devices so you can save yourself some headaches by making sure your hardware is compatible.

If you do decide to install Win 10, and you end up not liking it, Microsoft has built in a super easy way to return to your previous OS.

Windows 10 is not slower than Windows 8.1 at all. It's faster and better. The start screen may not be there. But it has a cooler start menu than any Windows. So, I suggest don't waste your time and upgrade to Windows 10. The start menu looks like this:

The start screen is still there but you have the option of keeping it up or having it hidden, instead of like in 8 where it's two different desktops. I like it a lot better. To keep the start screen up, just swipe from right (same as you would for charms which are gone in Windows 10) and choose tablet mode.

Why not try it and see if you like it? Microsoft officially allows you "downgrade" to the version of Windows that you updated from for one month after the upgrade. If you try Windows 10 and hate it (which you won t- it s essentially just Windows 8 without all the annoying inconveniences), you can downgrade right from the start menu, no problem at all!

Don't you be frightened because windows ten is free and if you want the windows eight start screen you can, by changing your windows ten setting into I believe it was tablet mode and windows ten is much, much faster then windows eight. So is windows ten worth it for you... YES!!! You can still have your start screen and its a ton faster. Plus it comes stock with this new better internet browser than internet explorer its called... maybe you should find out. ;)

I would not upgrade to Windows 10. It is spyware masquerading as an OS.

M$ has decided it can install anything it wants on your puter anytime it wants. Their attitude is, tough we now control you and your puters and there is nothing you can do about it.

By default it logs just about everything you do.

http://boingboing.net/2015/08/03/windows-10-defaults-to-keylogg.html

http://www.zdnet.com/article/windows-10-silently-uses-your-bandwidth-to-send-updates-to-others/

http://bgr.com/2015/07/31/windows-10-upgrade-spying-how-to-opt-out/

They say you can opt out of it but it still phones home, it's a trap

http://www.extremetech.com/computing/212160-windows-10-still-phones-home-even-when-ordered-not-to-do-so

Then there is the matter of not being able to turn off auto updates or selecting what they install. In other words with Windows 10 M$ can install anything they want on your puter.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/2949621/windows/windows-10-will-force-automatic-updates-for-all-home-users.html

Causing it to churn through data, blowing up usage caps

www.zdnet.com/article/windows-10-churning-through-bandwidth-blowing-data-caps/

They have a bad track record with updates, but now it will get worse.

http://www.zdnet.com/article/windows-10-cumulative-update-causes-reboot-loop-havoc-for-some-users/

http://www.zdnet.com/microsoft-pulls-updates-recommends-uninstall-7000032678/

http://www.zdnet.com/article/has-microsoft-stopped-testing-their-updates/

I saved the worse for last. The other reason for forcing updates on you is to also force new releases of the OS on you. They call it Windows as a service. This means the next time they have a Vista or Windows 8 you will not have a choice to update to it. They will use your auto update feature to force it down your throat. Everone knows the history of M$ and how bad they can be in detroying a good OS.

http://theconversation.com/the-pc-reaches-its-twilight-years-as-windows-10-becomes-the-last-major-upgrade-32411

http://www.itbusiness.ca/news/windows-10-review-the-last-os-youll-ever-have-to-install/58355

If you do decide to update make a complete image of your hard drive in case you decide to go back to your original OS. We are finding using the go back feature built into Widows install is causing problem and M$ is deleting the recovery partition.
