Question:
Is there any reason to upgrade to Windows 8?
2012-10-23 04:07:41 UTC
I'm getting a new laptop sometime this week, so I would be eligible for the "Upgrade Offer" of Windows 8 for £14.99. But to be honest, on my current laptop I have Windows 7 which I am happy with, so would there be any reason for me to upgrade when I get the new one? I use my laptop for school work, internet surfing and basic gaming like Minecraft and some older games, so is there any reason for me to upgrade to the new system?

Windows 8 is primarily designed for Microsoft's new "Touch" computers - they look a bit like propped up Ipad's and for Windows mobile devices. Just looking at the user interface once makes it obvious that it's designed for touch-sensitive surfaces. So I personally don't see a reason to upgrade.

Yes, windows 8 is worth the upgrade. It's allot faster, gives you longer battery life, and is a beast for gaming,

Only bad thing about it is that it is so different from windows 7 that you will atleast take 2 weeks to even understand how the basic operation works.

So I would recommend that you download a cracked version of it on some computer, try it out, see if you can get around things, then upgrade.

It actually depends on one's personal choice, if you are too comfortable with the very basic and easy user interface of windows 7 and don't want to completely change from it to something totally different, then I do not recommend windows 8 for you.

Sure! Windows 8 uses less resources than 7 and together with DirectX 11.1 and WDDM 1.2 you should see longer battery life when compared to 7 along with better game performance as new graphics drivers take advantage of the new features.

8 will work with all your current Windows 7 games.

The file explorer is improved and you can pause and resume move and copy operations. Task manager makes it even easier to close hung programs. Since you're on a laptop you'll be able to use the touch pad to do all the touch gestures used on the start screen.

Ignore the people who haven't actually used Windows 8. Even without a touch pad or touch screen the start screen still works fine with a keyboard and mouse.

All Programs is still present on the start screen. Right-click and select All apps to bring it up or use the keyboard shortcut Win + Z to bring up the app bar where you'll find All apps and hit Enter.

So everything is still there, granted it's gonna look a bit different but as this video shows, even a 3 year old can learn to use Windows 8.

If you like your windows 7 and they are working good, then I

wouldn't upgrade. I have windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

and I love the way my computer runs. I don't think I will ever

have windows 8 unless I buy another computer and it comes

with windows 8.

defiantly not. WIndows 7 has the interface everybody loves since 1995, the task bar and icons to the left. many are upset about this change. i'd say stick to windows 7 no matter what offer you get. its not the price its how the interface works and i dont think you should go for it. even if it was free

First and foremost, choose a machine that is up to the task of running Windows 8. Windows 8 is far superior to Windows 7. It'll take about a week of tweaks and getting familiar with it. Try not to take all negative opinions too seriously, Windows 8 is much faster, it works just fine with mouse and keyboard, if you don't like the 'Metro' applications, unpin, remove or uninstall them.

(No bugs here.)

If you're happy with what you have right now, i don't think there is any reason to upgrade. Windows 8 isn't going to be anything revolutionary anyway.

Absolutely not. It's full of bugs and you can't do the things that you used

to able to on any previous OS.

For example it has no Start button. It's designed for touch screens.

The reports I've read about it aren't much in favour of it.

I've got this feeling that it is going to be another disaster like Vista was!

Hi. if you're happy with W7 stay with it for now. W8 is designed better for touch screens and PC tablets. If you're into a lot of social networking, it can be beneficial as it can show all your updates on your homescreen. you can also change the settings so that it looks like the W7 format if you prefer that style; I know I do.

Window * is more complicated than win 7.. so there is no reason to waste your money.
