I need a new laptop soon and am waiting for Windows 7 which is available from the 22nd of October but will laptops with this OS installed already be available from that date too? Are there any companies pre-ordering laptops with this OS? (I know you can pre-order the OS itself)

Microsoft gives computer manufacturing companies an RTM version of Windows 7 so that they can pre-load it on computers so that consumers like you can get a computer with Windows 7 on Oct. 22.

Windows 7 is already available to companies. If you purchase a laptop with Windows Vista now, you most likely get a free upgrade to Windows 7 which will be made available to the public on the 22nd of October. To verify if a new laptop will include a free upgrade to Windows 7, check the website of the manufacturer. They will have a section on the website where all laptop models are listed which include a free upgrade. Please note that you most likely will have to pay a very small fee for administration and postage costs.

That depends on the manufacturer, some are holding back incase there are bugs with the 7 release. There shouldn't be, I have been using it for months & it is very good.

If you buy a Vista system now Microsoft will let you upgrade to 7 for free in the future.

When you purchase a new computer from say HP.com or from best buy they will give you a free copy of Windows 7 when it comes out, all you have to do is send in the rebate form with your reciept and they will mail you windows 7 for free when it is releases. I just bought a Sony laptop for my girlfriend and i got that windows 7 rebate form.

You can get a laptop with Vista and a free upgrade to Windows 7 now. Make sure the one you get has the upgrade coupon.
