Removing unused programs does not increase performance (unless it's something that runs at startup). Since your Internet is very slow, it sounds like you may have malware so you will need to run some scans. Follow these steps:

1) Clean up the disk. Uninstall unneeded programs (especially those that run at startup and/or put something in the system tray), run Disk Cleanup, and defragment the drive. This is a good first step that will almost always take a few seconds off boot time and application loads for any computer.

2) Stomp auto-starting programs. Click Start > Run and type "msconfig" at the prompt. Click the Startup tab and look at all that junk that loads when you launch your PC. Do you really need "Adobe Reader Speed Launch"? Probably not. Turn off anything else that looks useless, but be careful not to disable your anti-virus and important system components.

3) Run a full anti-virus and anti-spyware scan. I would recommend AVG Free anti-virus, Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyware remover. These programs are all free.

4) Clean up the registry. CCleaner, available at http://www.ccleaner.com is free and worth running. It will also remove unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space.

I strongly recommend using Firefox as your primary Web browser, It is safer and better than Internet Explorer. Get the add-on NoScript for Firefox to prevent click-jacking. The AdBlock Plus extension will allow you to surf virtually ad-free. If you add-on McAfee SiteAdvisor, it will warn you of potentially harmful sites. I also recommend CCleaner which is a free system optimization and privacy tool.

Don't uninstall any Windows updates. It may cause problems.

Uninstall other applications that you don't need.

To speed up the computer, try this:

(1) Run a FULL anti-virus scan with a good virus scanner. Use the latest virus definitions file.

(2) Run anti-spyware scans with Spybot S&D and malwarebytes.

(3) Ensure all Microsoft security updates are applied.

(4) Run disk cleanup to delete old temp files and other junk

(5) Run a thorough disk defrag. Use a good defragmenter for this, and also run a boot-time defrag to fix the MFT and page file if they are fragmented. You can check out Diskeeper 2009, which is widely acknowledged to be the best defragger around. Their website has free 30-day trial versions. http://www.diskeeper.com

(6) Disable unnecessary background processes and services that take up memory.

(7) Make sure all the hardware components have the latest and most stable drivers. Video card performance in particular is strongly dependent on drivers.

Good Luck!

Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some registry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".

Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!

There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.

Have you ever defragged your computer?

Hard drive fragmentation will severely affect the speed and reliability of your computer. Fragmentation is often the cause of system slows, malfunctions such as system hangs, program errors or a complete crash.

So defrag your hard drive, better yet, install an automatic defrag like Diskeeper, you can download free trialware at www.diskeeper.com

I had the same problem. My computer was frustratingly slow. I then went out and bought a 1GB DDR. Go to a website like amazon.co.uk and search for DDR. The cost starts from £10, depending on memory. You will have to open up your tower to insert it, but you can watch an installation video on YouTube.

If you are not sure what type of DDR your computer uses go to a website like crucial.com and they will scan your computer and tell you which type of DDR you need and if you have any spare slots to insert it in. If not, remove the old one and insert the new one, just like changing a light bulb.

Well the best thing to do is buy a new computer or spend money to upgrade the processor speed or RAM of your current computer. If you can’t afford to do that then you must fully optimize the speed of your current computer. The best way to do this is use a program to help. I use one that scans my computer and offers a diagnosis of what is wrong with it. You can scan your computer for free and try it yourself at

click the start menu then programs, then accessories then disc defragment. It compacts all your data into smaller bits therefore speeding up your pc. It wont help if you have huge amounts though. Maybe you'll need to get an external hard drive to put stuff on in future!
