My hp 5510 works fine with XP. The new pc came with Vista Professional per-installed. When I tried to install the hp printer sofware cd, it kept telling me I need to be an administrator to do it. But I am the administator, and the only one using it. I did check at the Control Panel - User Accounts, and verified that I am the administrator, but still the installation failed with screen shown

"Administrator Rights:
This software cannot be installed using the 'Run as...' command. The installation cannot continue until this is resolved.
Required Action: Click Cancel to exit this software installation. Log off and then log on as a user with administrator privileges. (Contact your system administrator for more information.)
If there is no system administrator, have the primary user of this computer install the software. ....
"

I tried clicked on "Setup.exe" and "Run As Administrator". both failed. Help please!

Great question and thank you for participating. True enough, the new Vista has caused a lot of your hardware to fail because of incompatability issues, but we've found that you can find the correct drivers for your printer/Vista by searching them thru HP or Microsoft. Be sure when choosing the drivers that you download the ones for Vista because the older OS drivers will probably fail. Also, there's no doubt that you being the owner of the computer, you are considered the "administrator" however, if you dont actually sign in to Windows as the Adminstrator, you wont be able to make the necessary changes. Make up an admin password and sign in with it when booting into Windows and you should be fine. Let me know if I can help further. Larry.

As above by Without Style - there is no problem - Lexmark have been in front of the field with updating their software for XP - the driver download takes a minute or two at max - never had any trouble installing stuff with Vista, with the exception of SonyEricsson software for my mobile - they are pretty behind and lame to say the least. To be honest - I have always had problems with HP equipment even back to Win 98 - whether it be a camera, printer or laptop - they have all been crap to be honest.
