You don't have a 64bit processor. You've downloaded the wrong version for your system.

I've also got a P4 2.4GHz CPU with 1GB RAM and I've run all 32bit versions of Fedora core on it. Must be 32bit version though.

The latest core 2 duos, SPARC processors etc. run 64bit registers and can use 64bit FC but don't worry. There aren't alot of programs out there that take true advantage of the 64bit CPUs. You're not missing out on much...YET!

your mistake was you downloaded the wrong version

your P4 is only 32 bit not 64 bit so download the 32 bit version live CD not NOT the DVD

fedora 10 is good

Go to the linux website and read about each version. It specifies the specs needed for the OS to work properly. They also have a very extensive FAQ.
