New XP business CD computer won't read. Restarted the computer it kept asking for the old Prof version which I don't have. I want the computer when I boot it up to run directly reading the CD and not ask for the old disk. The only options on the start up screen are to run the old messed up version (ask 4 service pac 2 CD don't have) or insert old XP proff CD. I went into the initial boot prompt and I tried every the options to get it to boot from the CD drive with my new CD in there. I tried other settings to make it read the CD before it came to the screen which asked me what broken/bad version I wanted to open. My main problem is it is wanting to read the new CD in the disk drive right away, it keeps wanting the scratched XP professional version disk
Is there are way to delete/format EVERYTHING (the older versions messed up) start over..need steps to get to command promonts and need to know what to type. I just want everything gone and it to read the new CD when I turn it on

To boot-up from a CD your BIOS needs to be instructed to try booting from the cd-drive first. You will need to setup your pc accordingly. Easiest way is to press DELETE (or ESC, F2, depending on your pc) when you first power-on. Inside the BIOS setup look for anything related to boot-priority and drive-order. Make the CD-drive first, save your changes, exit the setup and it should boot-up from your new CD. From there you can follow the normal xp setup routines to remove your old XP and install a fresh one.

If you start tapping on the F8 key when you first power on, you should get the boot choices menu for DOS. Sounds like you are waiting too long and you are getting the safe mode menu. If you can not get the device menu, check you system BIOS settings for boot order and put the CD-ROM first. But, if your system is that old, you may be stuck with floppy as the 1st boot device, then go to www.bootdisk.com and make a bootable floppy with CD-ROM drivers to boot from and then load the CD. Happy install.

In the BIOS you need to place the CDROM ahead of the Hard Drive in the boot sequence. Now ,when it starts to boot, right after the hard drive information and memory test screen it will say 'press any key to boot from CD'. Press a key and the setup should start. Once you get to the point where you select where you want to install XP, select your partition and delete it. (I think its the 'D' key). Then make a new partition and install to it.
