I ask alot of questions, sorry to clog the pipe, but I've seen a lot of information about KDE with regards to Linux. Can someone shed some more light?

Here's kind of a high level overview:

KDE is a Desktop environment. Just like Gnome, sawfish and others. The main thing to understand is that KDE is not Linux. Linux is the OS Kernel (the "program" between the hardware and other compiled apps). There exists what's called an XServer which runs on top of Linux- this is one of those so-called apps. The XServer is, for lack of a better term, a graphics engine on top of Linux. Desktop Environments run on top of the XServer. There are, then, KDE apps (and other "window" type apps) that will run on KDE. There's currently an attempt to do some standardization between KDE and Gnome so that Gnome apps (written using the GTK library) will run "smoother" in KDE, and KDE apps (written using the KDE libraries which are built on top of the Qt library) will run "smoother" on Gnome.

KDE is a window manager for Linux.

But of late, it has evolved much beyond that and provides Office applications etc.

Check out http://www.kde.org/whatiskde/ or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KDE for more info.

Here is the official site http://www.kde.org

There is another desktop manager for Linux that's very popular and it is GNOME. Check out http://www.gnome.org

For a complete list of window managers for Linux (rather X) check out http://xwinman.org/

KDE is a desktop gui. Gnome is the default desktop for Ubuntu. Other distros use KDE. Personal preference. You can add the libraries in Ubuntu and change over.

Good question! I found the answer to all my questions on this website

http://www.superiworld.info They give away free computer training CD's and they have a good reputation for having high quality courses. Also, they charge $6.95 shipping and handling and you get 3CD's delivered to your home.

Good luck.
