ahm...do you know the difference between kB(kilobytes) and kb(kilobits) ?

since 1 byte = 8 bits and your router told you your download speed is 861 kb(bits)per second,

861/8 = 107,625, which isnt that far away from 90kB(bytes)per second..
What the...?!?

Well, the default settings in Windows are not optimize for broadband use. There are a number of settings which you can change to optimize your Internet connection speed. Many of the settings are not easily accessible but can be adjust using free programs, such as TCP/IP Optimizer and/or Dr. TCP.

1. TCP/IP Optimizer (http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php)

2. Dr. TCP (http://www.dslreports.com/faq/578)

Both are fairly easy to use. The websites I listed above provide the download links as well as info on how to use the 2 programs.

Alternatively, you can also download a trial version of TuneUp Utilities 2007 (http://www.tune-up.com/download/tu2007/). You can use it for free for 30 days. It is one of the best system utility suites I have used. It has a great tool to optimize your Internet connection speed. All you need to do is select the type of connection you have and the program does the rest. In addition, if you use either Internet Explorer or Firefox, it will also optimize their settings for optimal performance.

First

90KB/s =720Kb/s

I am sure you don't know your Bytes from your bits.

b= bit

B=byte

1B = 8b

=================================

Your results are well within specs for the ATT basic DSL plan. I found I needed to upgrade to the "Pro Package" to view streaming videos without the video periodically stopping to allow the download to catch up.

nothing is wrong. i have the exact same connection as you.

my max download is also 89-90kbps.

the 156kbps is the connection speed. doesn't mean you will be downloading at that speed.

that's just the speed for the $14.95 a month from verizon. if you want more speed, just pay more.

well yeah thats the normal speed for for Verizon ($14.99 for a year). Up is the maximum speen you can download ever, and it bearly reaches that speed because the network is so huge. as for the anti virus, i recommend you use avast anti virus.
