Well, I tried Mint 4.0 on an older machine the other day and it just would not run right. Last year or so I tried Mint 3.0 or something and it ran well. I liked it OK. I have openSUSE installed on my Dell machine right now, dual booting Gutsy, and I like the openSUSE alright. It is just quite a bit different than Ubuntu and I'm still getting the hang of it. I don't much care for the menu system.

Now if someone could give me just one good reason to switch..........

I'd prefer OpenSUSE but Mint 4.0 disro isn't bad at all. I like linux distros but I prefer OpenSUSE.

I feel the same way, Linux Mint 4.0

Why?

It's Debian-based, I just prefer Debian-based distros. I like the package manager

Hi, oh we can start an argument on that....lol.

NO COMPETITION? WHAT???

1. OpenSUSE is way more stable, I remember the first time I tried to switch users on Mint 4.0 the xserver crashed.

2. OpenSUSE developers r more innovative, u r already know who started the compiz project and who made apparmor which is a very important security feature even ubuntu uses and thats novell's apparmor.

3. Linux Mint 4.0 shares many of the bugs on Ubuntu for example Gutsy's kernel bug breaks hibernate on one laptop of mine and so does Mint.

4. OpenSUSE developers care both about KDE and Gnome unlike the Mint guys who bring out a lame version of KDE.

5. Linux Mint is a community project and they survive of freaking donations and google advertisements....what loosers. OpenSUSE is sponsored by Novell and Novell has been the main innovator in Linux for years.

6. Novell sponsors almost every Linux project and most development funds for kde and gnome r given by them whereas ubuntu and mint don't do crap.

7. In Mint and Ubuntu a single little update can break your system, nothing breaks in SUSE.

8. You use out of date software in Mint and Ubuntu and have to wait for a new release, I use the latest stuff on my system, latest and STABLE.

9. If u complain about SUSE's package manager than wait for 11.0, there r huge promises by the SUSE team of improvements to speed.

10. Hardware support is better on SUSE since they have more bleeding edge software, the kernel hardware support is usually the same but some stuff like printer drivers and stuff r newer on SUSE, whereas on MInt u have to compile it yourself.

11. Latest and most stable drivers r used in openSUSE whereas Mint and Ubuntu use the old ones till a newer release cause gutsy uses nvidia driver 114.19 whereas SUSE uses the latest 169.12.

12. Polish, come on even u KNOW that opensuse and even Mandriva r the most polished Linux systems around.

13. OpenSUSE has a GUI FOR EVERYTHING, I CAN EASILY SETUP A SAMBA SHARE OR REPAIR GRUB, on Ubuntu and Mint u have to open a terminal and start configuring files.

14. OpenSUSE's suspend to ram and disk is way better than Mint's or Ubuntu's. It works all the time and perfectly on every laptop I try whereas on Ubuntu if it works more than once the next time it may either not get up or the network manager fails to load, how lame is that?

15. Forum support for opensuse is way better than Linux Mint.

16. Novell's openoffice can open all .docx files and their latest formats due to a deal with microsoft whereas u guys can't. Also because of that deal when I run Windows as a virtual machine on SUSE then it works better than it will on ubuntu or mint.

17. Now here is one I thing I don't get, u say ubuntu is great and Linux Mint is great but your favorite version is 7.04, u know that 7.10 is horrible and u yourself said that u won't be switching over to 8.04 either cause that sucks as well. SO tell me how is the ubuntu family better again whereas u won't find one opensuse user who ever has to downgrade his system.

I can add loads of more stuff, it just pissed me off when u said opensuse is no competition and oh yeah Gutsy and Mint 4.0's kernel has a bug to reduce your laptop battery life by half, u can try that yourself. Install fiesty and gutsy on one laptop and fiesty will give u double the battery life.

Don't forget Ubuntu and Mint developers salary is crap and the Mint developers don't probably get paid either so they don't really care as much as Novell do about their product cause they r a business and they have to make a good release.

Anyway chill out. Take care!
