I used to be able to import wmv. videos into Sony Vegas but after about a year or so doing it, whenever I try to import it, or even just click the video, sony vegas freezes and then it says its not responding. I can import pictures, music and everything else fine! Also I tried using mp4 files instead and that only lets you hear the music and the video is a blank screen. Also avi files don't work for me. What's going on and how do I fix it?

sony vegas pro support video: M2TS, QuickTime, mpeg-4, avi, etc.

so you need a video converter to convert wmv video to sony vegas pro support video format. here i recommend PCHand Video Converter. it is a best video converter and support sony vegas pro.

I can't say much about the WMV format, its something i try to avoid, generally. In favor of DV AVI and MPEG2 Streams.

I don't use the import function in Vegas, usually i just drag and drop the files onto the timeline, which works quite well for me.

But its hard to say what is wrong in your case, Vegas should be able to open WMV files. Its even harder to assist you when you don't provide any information about your system, for example, which OS are you using? Which version of Sony Vegas ?

There are multiple versions of Sony Vegas, the Movie Studio and Platinum versions being aimed at the consumer marked have several limitations compared to the Pro version. While i don't think it is the case, it could be a limit of your version of Vegas. (The consumer versions are quite lackluster compared to the Pro.)

In any case, your version should support WMV, so you should first install the latest WMV codec, you should be able to grap it from windows update, by installing the latest version of WMP. Since WMP automatically download codecs, you shouldn't need to manually install them. If you don't want to install WMP or if you got other problems, heres a link to the codecs provided by Microsoft for IT professionals, in case manual installation is required. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows…

Oh, guys, the video format issue. As I know, sony vegas pro 8 supports mp4(H.264/AVC video codec, AAC audio codec) or MPEG2 videos well, so I think, you'd better use a right software to convert your wmv videos to the right sony vegas mp4 or mpeg2 videos. I am using RZ Video Converter which can convert any videos or audios between different formats with good quality, such as convert your wmv videos to the right mp4 or mpeg2 videos for sony vegas, etc. Yahoo or google search and download RZ Video Converter. Hope it can help you.

sony vegas accepts particular video formats like avi,wmv mpeg1, so which you opt for a good video converter to transform your 1080p video clips to general formats that sony vegas can import,it reduces the video high quality to some degree, however the video remains ideal and can be edited.

I find that sometimes raw AVI, WMV, or anything really, needs to be converted on your computer when stuff like that happens. Look up "Any video converter" on yourtube, thats what i use and it usually works for me.

Oh, and the import functions sucks. just pull if up in the explorer or in a seperate window and drag the media in ok?
