what does a software "crack" do?

there have been multiple software items offered to me with "crack", "serial crack", or "keygen" and i was just curious as to what these did

a "crack" is basically cracking the computer codes to authenticate your software.



It's considered stealing "pirating" because you didn't acutall purchase the software.

i've never heard of a serial crack, but i guess it is just a crack that inputs the serial into the program u are trying to crack.



cracks are programs that make trial software into full software, without the money :D.

Sometimes the software just asks for the registration and serial number, which is wat a keygen makes. A keygen is a small program that makes a serial number for you, so you can input it into ur software.



beware though. many of these cracks have bundled viruses or trojans with them. if the crack has a generic name such as crack.exe, then u'd better scan it with ur antivirus first, or even better just delete it.

Personally, i use ZoneAlarm security suite and it is rly good, i've nvr gotten any viruses after i installed it. even from crack sites.

Keygens are made available by software cracking groups for free download on various websites dedicated to software piracy.
